what a nice friday night. freezing cold outside. warm within. productive day in the kitchen. nice glass of wine in hand. "giada in paradise" on tv. which has prompted me to sit down at the keyboard and let my fingers talk a bit. giada's show is revolving around the isle of capri....what a beautiful piece of paradise indeed. now i am dreaming of the planned trip to italy. our tour brings us to capri. ooooo. tonight i drool in anticipation of the possibility of setting foot on it. i think we shall spend a night, although i can't put my finger on my folder with the itinerary right now.
several years ago i was fortunate to hitch a ride with my niece's latin class to italy, along with my ca-razy yet beautiful big sis and my best girl nan. we fell in love..with italy. doesn't everyone? i remember our bus ride up the slender mountain road to sorrento, the beautiful mediterranean sea far below, capri off in the distance. been fantasizing about going back ever since. a couple months ago another sister calls and says they have a fantastic deal on a tour....do i want in??????? sicily is included, the land of my father's heritage. do i want in?!! of course first checked in with the hubby...no interest. ca-razy beautiful sister can't manage it either. and little sis...no interest there either. so i called my girl nan to see if she's up for it. turns out she's expecting a grandbaby a couple weeks before we leave. she's tentatively on board, but hmmm.....i'm not quite sure she's a-gonna make it to tell you the truth. from the beginning i said that if she don't go, i don't go. though i'll have my sister and bro-in-law to hang out with & provide security, it just won't seem the same without my best bud. me and nance really know how to have a blast in italy:) we had tentative plans to break out on our own a couple years ago on an adventure up the amalfi coast (which is where this tour will take us), just the two of us (can you just imagine the insanity?:)), even called the travel agent, but nothing materialized. so even though it won't be the same without her should her plans fall through, i've been thinking lately that maybe it won't be so bad to go it alone. my own little adventure. i am beginning to believe that God may indeed show me many things. me and Him are pretty good traveling buddies. am i up for it? sometimes i think so, sometimes not. though i have always had an adventurous heart, i find that it has been eclipsed of late by various and sundry cares & life situations. but tonight giada (and perhaps my glass of vino) has fanned the flame.
you see blog, i am tired of allowing the melancholy side of me rule. i am ready to be surprised by joy. (ahem...for the record, these feelings have been stirring on the inside of me long before the glass of vino began to take effect). this morning as i was visiting with my dear Holy Spirit i caught a glimpse of myself. it was as if i was a seed that had been planted within the cold hard earth. ooo, that does sound melancholy. but i began to have a sense that even as i have lain there, dead to so many hopes and dreams that were once so dear, there has been a stream...a subterranean sort of thing....that has been nourishing the seed of me...keeping me viable. and then it was as if i saw that seed beginning to push upwards against the crusty dry ground, pressing towards the light, finally breaking through. ahhh. i'm such a visual person. and that is how God speaks to me about myself and others many times. i like that. and i like what He showed me this morning. He's just so cool like that.
well, alrighty then. just a bit of ramblin'. and anticipating the possibility of adventure. thanks giada.
