birthday eve selahs

i've been having something heavy on my mind today, and that is.....

how much i admire my children. i'm feeling quite poetic and flowery here tonight so bear with me dear blog, for here are a few reasons why:

Son #1.....so handsome, even more so with his new glasses perched upon that endearing face. very studious looking too, those new glasses highlight that thing about him. he was from the day he was born such a beautiful child, from the tip of his little turned up nose to the bottom of his toes. our curly haired boy. precocious. curious. smart. a thinker. his own baby boy takes after him in this especially, i can already tell. our absent-minded professor of sorts, faithful and righteous to the core. though we have had our share of misunderstandings and differences of opinion, i always have to a certain extent and do to a larger extent in these days and times value his thoughts and deductions about life and the situations that ensue from the living of it. not easily influenced or swayed by popular culture, i admire him greatly for the way he lives his life in single minded devotion to Truth. husband and father extraordinaire. the heart of david and the wisdom of solomon all rolled into one is this my son.

Daughter #1.....dark eyed beauty. our little flutterfly. not always though. she started out in this life very shy. while she flitted about safely at home, in public she was firmly attached to mama's apron strings. but boy once she let go....watch out! as with son #1, daughter and i have had more than our share of misunderstandings and differences. oh the joy of finally emerging from that tight place....which we did and good riddance! generous and compassionate. i admire her for her tenacity and her drive to achieve what she sets out to accomplish. her dependability and faithfulness in the important things astounds me. her loyalty and the uncanny ability she has to be a friend that sticks it out through thick and thin. my heart yearns deeply for her to reap the fruit of her labors of that love and loyalty she extends to others for her own self. determined and faithful wife, devoted step-mom, she will be a wonderful mother to her own. in my eyes, like debra she judges justly and quite accurately. like esther, she stands a queen among women.

Son #2.....baby boy. mom's (and dad's) former side-kick (well isn't that what baby boys are for :) conscientious care-taker of all within his domain. brave, handsome, blessed and highly favored. common sense is his middle name. loyal and dependable to the core. in the likeness of son #1, not really interested in following after the shallowness of the mavens of "pop culture", they have the courage to blaze their own trails. though he can't outright quote many Scripture references, he has somehow internalized the truths of God's Word outstandingly. and you can pretty much read it in the way he lives his life. God lives in him and it shows in the way he values the things He values. patient and considerate husband, i can't wait to see him fathering his own children. like joseph, he stands a prince among men. and as samuel of old, he has an intuitive ear to hear what is just and right and does it with great simplicity of heart to the best of his ability, even though the cost may be his own comfort or pleasure.

and so here lie the tender reflections of a mother's heart of hearts. in this i am not ashamed, for i am blessed among women in these that God has given through me. in the face of such wondrous-ness how could a mother ask for more for her children. and yet because i am their mother, while on my face in the presence of the Divine... i always do.
