sigh. the old man just pulled out. yesterday he hauled the last of the crawfish traps and laid them to rest under the shed. three days ago he brought the big gmc in for detailing, so now it's all white and shiny and the inside free of mud and muck and it smells sweet as a...whatever that stuff is they use to clean the inside! last week he pulled the boat out of the carport for the first time since it was laid to rest last fall and parked it in the shade of the pecan trees in the front yard as he began to paint the rust spots on the boat trailer with shiny silver paint. yesterday he cleaned out the boat, brought it to false river for a test run, pronounced it sea worthy, came back and hit it good with the clorox spray and pressure washer til it is spic and span and ready for the inevitable blood and guts of speckled trout and whatever else is hauled overboard during his long anticipated summer of contentment on the high seas:)
this morning he gave it one last spray to wash out the cat tracks made overnight by those pesky yet loveable critters, made sure all of the connections were made for the brake lights, tightened up the spare tire, loaded up the old newspaper in anticipation of shrimp and crab boils to come, pulled his grand isle bag from the closet and refreshed the contents, kissed fox's mimi goodbye and pulled out onto 416 for the first short trip of the season. my heart was singing and crying all at the same time on the inside for him because i was somehow feeling what he felt. i know how he felt. 7 days a week in the crawfish ponds for 7 months. and now freedom awaits, lol! and here i sit held captive by two 325 degree ovens going full blast in preparation for a weekend full of birthday, wedding, and graduation celebrations. sigh. my time is coming. dear patience....come and have your perfect work. Please!
