this year on august 9th chuck will have been married to his "dago" for 36 years! oh dear lord. i have been married for over 2/3 of my life! scary but true. and what do i have to show for it?
1. a crazy-beautiful relationship with the man of my dreams, my soulmate, like it or not sometimes, that he remains. to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, through good times and bad, til death do us part. yep that's us. and can i tell you what it's like to know that i know that i know that the feeling's mutual??? there are no words. how blessed and fortunate am i? though i could dream up another, this one is my reality and for that i am thankful.
2. three awesome children. yes, awesome. wouldn't trade them for all the tea in china, for all the fish in the sea, for all the gold in them there hills. each one a peculiar amalgamation of the family genes, a priceless conglomeration of life lessons and experiences that makes them unique and precious in my sight. they are the beginnings of my legacy and there is nothing that compares with the knowledge of that.
3. two lovely daughter-in-laws. one handsome son-in-law. though these do not possess my dna, yet they are grafted into the family tree. each one fashioned in the hands of the Master for their own unique part to play in my posterity.
4. ta-daaa....one glorious grandson...firstborn of many...or few....it matters not. he is the joy of my heart today, the brightest light in my life. the scent of that sweet little head, the wet gammy kisses, well....more on that later.
so there. i could list the material things. they matter. yet they don't. not in the bigger scheme of things. i am dago. wife. mother. gammy-annie. beloved daughter of the King. today that is all. and today that is enough.
