i continue to reclaim areas of my home. for instance, i have recently reclaimed the "children's bathroom". recently (well, over the last 5 years or so) it has received a fresh coat of paint, and all of the kiddie pictures have come down off the wall (although tonight i did notice three of them leaning up against the wall in a corner). used only sparingly now, i have had to make it my business to run the hot water from time to time to empty out the hot water tank so that it can be refilled with fresh water. the other day it occurred to me.....why don't i make it my own? and so the children's bath has gone the way of charlie's room (my new study). it's now mama's private spa...ha!
tonight as i was having a soak i began to reminisce....if those walls could talk, eh? some of the memories hidden within this mama's heart:
bathing my babies when the tub was new. laying them gently on their big bath sponge, singing and swabbing away whatever grime a newborn collects during the daylight hrs. of feedings and naps and play.
after they reached the sitting up stage and were interested in water play they used to love squeeze toys that shot out water like a fountain and various other water toys, including puzzle pieces that stuck to the bathtub wall. they would stay for an hour if i let them, happy to splish & splash....
family prayer times before school EVERY morning..... without fail. we would gather together in that bathroom, sitting on the floor as i read a scripture. then each of us would have a turn to say a little prayer of praise & blessing & protection for the day......"thank You Jesus for this day".....it was our ritual and i hope (and truly believe) that it implanted firmly within their hearts and souls the importance of giving their days to the Lord.
of course as they grew, mama's presence was no longer required. that in itself is a strange transition point that must be experienced to fully comprehend. and then off they went, wending their way to adulthood, a state of mind and being in which their time spent in the bathroom was definitely no longer the place for mama!
