there once was a little fishey named..................
nothing much on tv tonight, so i'm watching old reruns of castle. i love castle. ever since firefly. the show's not half bad either ;) right now i am watching an episode that is exactly like what happened in boston. guy plants a bomb (it was in a backpack) in the middle of a crowd (during the occupy wallstreet days). really weird.
i just watched the video steph posted on her blog with the two kids who just had their wisdom teeth (i guess) pulled. it makes me laugh uncontrollably. i could pee my pants every time. really :)
today was a fox day. i picked him up from school as usual on fox days. he immediately wants to know where we goin'. we like to go on field trips every week or so. we are supposed to go to the arts & science center children's museum next. i told him we had an emergency and we would have to go next week. said emergency: another household appliance bit the dust yesterday. today bellelo's delivered a brand new washer. ah well, i guess 10 years is a pretty good run for a washing machine.
so we just had another lazy afternoon in the country. i like springtime. we have our lunch on the porch with friskey & julesy. today julesy was awol, but on tuesday he jumped onto the table top and tried to swipe some of fox's mac & cheese, though he only sniffed at my salad. fox shared some noodles with him and got the biggest kick out of it, so it is now a legendary happening, fit to be passed down to the generations i reckon ;)
after rest time we took a ride in the back on the crawfishmobile. we saw two small alligators swimming in the slough. fox never shut up the whole time. that boy can talk. and talk. and talk. a while back whenever i used to put him down for nap i started telling him "fishey stories". well lately he has been asking for fishey stories ALL. THE. TIME. they are just nonsense. we just talk off the top of our heads and make up all sorts of crazy stuff. sometimes i try to weave a little lesson in there. i try to involve him as much as possible by letting him fill in the gaps. he will do that, but if i ask HIM to tell ME a fishey story he says NO mimi! YOU tell ME a fishey story. and so we play the game. he always has to name the main character, so we have a little starfish named starley, and a little dolphin named dolcey, and seahorses named stahley (as opposed to starley) and silly, and then there is willie the whale, and a clownfish named nemo of course, his daddy's name is marlin, but his mama's name is dorie. there is a blue fish named tang also. there are a great many more, too numerous to count i assure you. surprisingly sharks take a back seat, but there is one named sharkey who makes an appearance sometimes. and they all have ooodles of friends whose names fox has to recite that takes about 2 minutes. they all go to school and have a teacher and play on the playground and sometimes they kick or hit or bite each other, for which they are sternly corrected and then they apologize and say they will never do that again to their friends.
fox has always seemed to have a love/hate relationship with his pop pop. but i am happy to say that the "like" part is developing nicely. they are beginning to develop a sort of rapport that is very satisfying for mimi to see. i think they are very much alike.
for a good long while we thought "the old oceans" dvd was too scratched up to watch anymore. nic cleaned it up for us and i am somewhat happy to say that it is as good as new. for a time we had to hide everything "oceans" (dvd-wise) because of his obsession with them. lately we have brought them out again and he enjoys having his quiet time on the couch in the "oceans room" with big green frog, big black gorilla, penguin and turtle...and his big blue comforter. he is a good boy and stays put until mimi says rest time is over.
a while back we discovered that there is a certain place in the menu music of the dvd where there are children singing, it sounds like it is in french. it is very subtle and you have to really listen to realize that is what is going on in the background of the music. fox is fixated on those voices and it is soooo funny to hear him speculate on what he is certain they are saying. "cow" "repeat" and "t". the other day i caught him reasoning to himself: "cow" is an animal, "repeat" is a word, and "t" is a letter. it's quite hilarious and there's really no way to communicate how funny he is about it.
so all in all a very busy day and mimi is tired now. i haven't written lately about the fox man and so i thought i'd do that. though he is still quite the strong willed one, we find that he is a lot less moody and it brings us joy to see him steadily coming into his own. his antics and little sayings provide much hilarity to the old folks as we observe him in finding his way into becoming a real boy ;)
