knowledge without humility is arrogance.....mr. weaver. absolutely, sir.
mr. weaver is my algebra teacher. he is about 5 feet tall and just about as round and usually a bit disheveled. he is VERY serious about math. he is the quintessential math teacher in my book. he wants us to understand what we are doing, and not just learn how to work problems. he says he talks to himself on the bus and people look at him kind of strange for some reason:) when he drops a dry erase marker, rather than pick it up, he kicks it across the room like he's punting a dang football. he is very dramatic and when he asks a question he expects the class to state their opinions clearly, and if everyone mumbles, he mimics us until we speak clearly, no matter how stupid our input sounds. when he smiles he looks just like the actress melissa mcarthy. he is a hoot and i told him that i love him on the very first day and he said, we'll see about that :) he is very strict but fair. his test questions are pulled from the homework (which are sometimes pretty convoluted), but he always pulls the straightforward ones just so that he can see that we have mastered the skill. he is def a strange lil dude. i sure hope he teaches 101 and if he does, i can get into his class in the fall.
i made a 95 on my last test! that pulled my average up to an a-b. i am so happy :D
i have deduced my english teacher's age to be somewhere in her very early 30's, because she says she came of age in the 80's. right now we are watching the movie "v for vendetta" in class. she is going to offer a list of topics from it for our next paper. i can just imagine......
she is a comicon (sp?) fanatic, among other things. she is a free thinker. she seems to be fairly objective, and wanting us to execute well in writing our opinions...in third person, of course. i am trying to be as objective as possible in the way i write while staying true to my convictions. even though it is not as easy as i may have thought it would be, i am kind of liking it.....
the topic assigned for our last paper was that it be on something "supernatural". it was exploratory/informative. third person. i just couldn't bring myself to write on dopplegangers, the ghosts at the myrtles, or unicorns like the rest of the young 'uns in the class. (although one of my lil classmates from last semester who is in this class wrote a very entertaining one on leprechauns:) she really had them going. she wanted us to have fun with it. the "supernatural" is very real to me and i wanted to do it justice while not being too heavy. so go figure, i chose to write on faith healing. i stayed after class for a few minutes to go over my draft with her. she told me i am a really good writer, i just need to work on brainstorming and organizing my thoughts and being disciplined in what material i use, because it's important to use only what you need and not try to make everything "fit". she said she used to have the same problem. she helped me to hone down my thesis sentence and gave me some good input, even an example of something that i could use, which i did (i ain't no fool!:) this is the paper that will be presented as my final project for the semester, along with some type of power point presentation (ima do an interview of someone i know who had an out of body/near death experience.)
i made a 95 on my paper! i am so happy :D
even though i truly truly hate dealing with fractions, TODAY i am def liking jr. college:)
YESTERDAY i felt overwhelmed over the priorities and concerns that i juggle in my life. sometimes when i feel that way it seems like i am teetering on the precipice of insanity. you know, it's like a freight train on the inside and you can't breathe, and would like to just go curl up somewhere in a fetal position.....or just run the heck away. it always passes. it has always passed. it will always pass. that's what i've learned. i am an emotional woman. i know now from experience that just because i feel a certain way in the moment, does not mean that i will always feel that way...and that time of turning is not usually too far down the road. (unless i absolutely refuse to stop ruminating about it. rumination is always my undoing.) yeah. that's what us "emotional" women have to deal with.
it always passes. it has always passed. it will always pass......annie loup. eloquence is not always my strong suit(e?).
