first wedding cake of the year was delivered to white oak plantation tonight. i was so nervous with it because my icing was softer than usual and i was afraid that the sides would bulge, and there was a little issue with the top tier icing separating some. good thing it was not a smooth iced design and i could run my spatula over the icing to make it behave. Lord, please i hope it stood up well for the 3 hours until cutting time! i only have one more wedding on the books so far.
fox is sleeping over tonight. we went to pick him up and he had three bags packed. he seems to be really getting into packing up his things lately. he was so cute trying to push his little suitcase with wheels out to the car. put him down in risi's room tonight. he's never slept in that room before and i hope it goes well. he's getting bigger and changing so much. he even dressed himself for bed (and put his drawers on backwards:) we told ("read") two fishy stories before bedtime, which is our ritual. his mom did an advent activity with him this year where he got a little piece of candy in a "paper ornament" as he calls it, and the had a bible story with it every day. so he said we should do that too. so i put some skittles into a wooden ornament that opens up and we had the story of the prodical son while he ate a handful of skittles. the deal is that it has to be a different kind of candy, it can't be the same candy every time. i guess that will become a thing. he says that we had to read a "december 1" story, but i said it was not december 1, it is january 2. so when we were done he said that, ok, instead of december stories we can read january ones.'
he made me wrap up some of his sea creatures he brought with him in christmas paper so he could open them. he brought the pkg. into the living room near pop pop and acted like he was opening a christmas gift. it was so cute and he showed them to pop pop. i think, i hope with all my heart, that they start interacting more like they have been lately. i want them to be friends so much, and to develop their own little relationship. especially before a.j. gets here. i am hoping that pop pop and a.j. will bond well, and i really don't want fox left out in the cold because of his dislike for chuck. they do seem to be trying a little harder these days and mimi is so so happy about that!
kee and i have tentative plans to go to nola tomorrow afternoon to see if the christmas lights are still up in the roosevelt hotel and eat at adrian's restaurant. it's supposed to storm at precisely the time we are to be on the road, and i told her if it was bad weather i'd rather not be out in it. dang.
