arrived in grand isle yesterday 5pm-ish. chuck, steve, fox and mimi. steve hitched a ride down so that he could pick up his truck and boat to make the haul back to glynn. he's done fishing for the summer. i am finally taking some much anticipated time off from the kitchen. kind of late this year after a very busy wedding season this past spring/summer. made a few $$ for the new york weekend get-a-way with kee. didn't blog about that one. perhaps later.
figured after that long truck ride i'd take fox out to the beach to burn off some energy. he loves the beach...yaay! he ran out to it exclaiming, "wets go see my beach"! he has this great little floatie/life preserver combo thingie that straps around him and when he has it on he thinks he is invincible and can swim like a fish:) it really is great and takes the stress out of having him playing around in the surf or even bringing him out in a little deeper water (upper waist area to me). he says "watch what i can do" all the time and it is very cute. he floats on his back with his feet in the air and sometimes he will put his head back and rest it on my chest while we keep a sharp lookout for the jumping fishies. no dolphin sightings so far.
we made him a cozy sleeping spot on the air mattress in the middle bedroom. i tucked pillows all around and he brought his big sharkie from his own bed, his light-up turtle, piggy, and his pillow and blankie. we made a special fishie poster for his wall next to his bed and covered it with the fishie stickers aunt risi sent for him. he is in heaven. we will add to it daily.
this morning a huge thunderstorm huffed and puffed from about 5pm until 7pm, keeping pop pop snoozing on the couch waiting until he could slip out for some fishing. he left around 8. i got up and had my coffee on the couch, and waited until i heard fox stirring before letting him out of his sanctuary to begin the day. we had breakfast, watched some pbs kids, slathered on the sunscreen (the weather cleared magnificently) and headed out to the beach. it takes quite a while to get out there (and back) because at every step he is looking/bending down exclaiming, "wook,i found a shell!.....this one is so pretty!...wook another shell!....this one is broken....this one is fixed (whole)!" i taught him what a turban shell looks like. gotta brush up on the other ones so he can get the names right, since he tends to remember such things:) today we went to the beach in the morning and late afternoon. each time is like it is his first. yesterday and this morning the water was slick, with slow rolling waves. niiice. this afternoon the wind was blowing and the water was a little choppy. we didn't walk out, but he stayed right by the beach in the surf rolling with the breaking waves. we played a lot in the sand this afternoon. me sculpting sea creatures and he thoroughly admiring each finished product before smashing it to smithereens:) when he looks at the camp from across the street he says "that's grand isle. it has a sun on it". (meaning the camp with the Rise N Shine2 sign:)
today while he was napping i made a trip to the sureway to get groceries and picked him up a couple surprises. i got a huge tropical fish coloring book, so there is now a new sea creature poster on his wall, freshly colored/scribbled in with colorful markers.while we were coloring he kept exclaiming how beautiful and "wonderful" it looked. tomorrow we will color another and by the time he leaves the walls will be plastered with them:) and some new bathtub fishies draining in the bathroom. tonight he got a new sea horse tatoo for his arm and of course that was a highlight of the night. more fishie stickers have been added onto his poster by his bed and as i write he is snuggled in his cozy spot dreaming of fishies i reckon. it's really fun having him in a big boy bed because i can lay down with him and read and talk and sing. tonight i attempted to teach him "octopuses garden". i think it might catch on, but not sure. i read a couple of his books to him and then asked him to read one back to me. he did a surprisingly good job. so cute...i've been waiting for him to do that:)
well, i guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.....
