on to phase 2

pop pop and i spent a very relaxing afternoon today after the departure of the grandfox and his entourage (mommy, daddy, & SEA CREATURES)   no more SEA CREATURES littering the living room floor, no more play dough at the ready, the bedsheets have been stripped and tomorrow i guess the sea creature posters will come down and be packed away to live again at mimi & pop pop's house in his daddy's old room with his new big boy bed:)  we decided to stay on for a few days for some "our time".

he woke up in the middle of the night last night crying and since his room is next to ours, i went in to soothe him back to sleep.  thank God that was not a problem.  i did not relish the thought of having to go wake mommy or daddy.  he woke up in a very pleasant mood this morning, and after a leisurely breakfast and the decision was made that his daddy & pop pop would not go out fishing because of the weather, we took him out to the beach while pop pop stayed behind at the camp to prepare lunch for them before they loaded up and started for home.

the weather turned out beautiful, the sea had calmed just right for him to go out with supervision and float without the fear of the undertow taking him away.  we made sand dribble castles, the misty mountains and mount doom and watched him smash them to smithereens as he is wont to do.  he made friends with a little 2 year old girl and her friendly chocolate lab, who kept swimming over to make sure he was safe while floating with mommy and daddy in deeper water.  he ate his snack and drank his juice on his beach towel, which seems to be a ritual that he enjoys immensely, since playing on the beach seems to give him a voracious appeitite:)

i came in early to help pop pop finish preparing lunch: plates of fried fish, onion rings, french fries and salad.  gotta do that once while you're on the island, just once.  he got his chance to eat pop pop's fishie and he liked it:)  with lots of ketchup of course.

his interaction & rapport with pop pop is progressing along. it's been good to have him in close quarters these last few days for that development to happen.  he now knows to TALK LOUD to pop pop (because he's half deaf!) on command.  when we ask him what does pop pop say, he responds, "go put some clothes on boy!", which is what pop pop says to him when he is running around naked, which happens quite frequently, it seems:) pop pop laughs when he hears this.  there's a dolphin at the bottom of the sea has been oh so cleverly changed by him to "there's a mimi at the bottom of the sea":) and octopus's garden has now become one of our staple songs:)

as we were preparing to load him into the car, his arms newly adorned with his new octopus and sea turtle tatoos (the last in the pack), i reminded him to tell pop pop that he loved him.  he said it in his usual low voice while looking at the ground.  we told him to look at pop pop and say it LOUD!  he picked up his head, looked pop pop straight in the face with the biggest grin you've ever seen and screamed "I WOVE YOU POP POP!"

a fitting end to a perfect week:)
